Santa Monica Van Rentals and Bergamot Station |
|
Bergamot Station is a facility in Santa Monica that houses many art galleries. You can visit it with your Santa Monica van rental. All aboard!Bergamot Station dates back to 1875 when it was a stop on the Pacific Electric rail system that served the Los Angeles area until 1953. This rail line was known as the "Santa Monica air line" because people would go from the city to the beach for a bit of cool air. After the railway stopped operating in 1953, the warehouse buildings housed a celery packing plant, and ice-making plant, and was the home base for American Appliance water heaters. It was purchased by the city in 1987 because the city hoped to use it for a light rail service from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica. The plans for a light rail service did not move along fast enough, and the city wanted to make it a productive site, so they converted it to a site for artistic use. It opened in 1994 and you can visit it today with your Santa Monica van rental.
