Union Station was built with the cooperation of three of the region's largest railroads - the Union Pacific Railroad, the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Unfortunately, this railway boom couldn't last forever, and by the 1970's Union Station had entered an era of decline.
