DFW's official rental facility is at 2424 E. 38th Street, near the airport's south entrance. For a booking using that facility, collect your baggage, follow Rental Car signs to the terminal's lower-level pickup area and board the Rental Car shuttle. Confirm the current route with DFW's rental-car instructions.
Keep your confirmation accessible during the transfer. If your selected offer provides a different meeting point or additional shuttle step, follow those supplier-specific instructions instead of assuming every offer has the same handover.
Rental Car shuttle, Skylink and Terminal Link are different services
The rental transfer is not the Skylink train. DFW describes Skylink as an inside-security connection between terminals; Terminal Link is its outside-security terminal connection. Neither name should be substituted for the Rental Car shuttle in your pickup plan.
This distinction matters most when relatives arrive separately or someone has already left security. First establish where everyone is and whether checked luggage has been collected. Then choose a meeting plan appropriate to those circumstances, rather than sending everyone to a train platform that does not serve the rental facility.
Allow for the handover, not just the bus journey
A useful pickup time leaves space for the whole process. An international arrival with checked bags is different from a domestic arrival with a carry-on, and a group arranging child seats will have more to do than a solo traveler.
Do not tie the first afternoon to a nonrefundable attraction booking immediately after landing. Make your initial destination the hotel, a meal or another flexible stop, then start the tightly timed plans once the vehicle and group are ready.
Late flights and pickup hours: confirm the supplier's position
DFW describes the Rental Car Center and its shuttles as operating 24 hours. That is not a promise that your supplier's desk will be staffed or that a particular reservation can be collected at any hour.
Before booking a late arrival, establish:
- The branch's collection hours for that date.
- What to do if a delay pushes you beyond the agreed pickup time.
- Whether the supplier requests a flight number and how it uses that information.
- Whether an after-hours handover is offered for your reservation and what it involves.
Keep the branch's contact details with the confirmation. If a flight changes, contact the supplier promptly using the booking instructions. Do not assume that entering a flight number guarantees a held vehicle or extends the opening hours.
Choose the vehicle around the flight's luggage load
A rental that works for local day trips may feel much smaller after an airport arrival. Count each traveler, checked bag, carry-on, stroller and mobility item before filtering the offers. Then consider the seats that need to stay upright for the whole trip.

For a Rental Car Center booking, follow the supplier's return instructions to the facility, then use the Rental Car shuttle for the terminal transfer. If your reservation uses another return location, follow its specific directions.
Work backward from your airline's recommended airport arrival time. Add room for the return process, unloading, the transfer and any fuel stop your agreement requires. The time you drive into the rental facility is not the time you will be at bag drop.
Before leaving your accommodation:
- Check the flight's current terminal and save the rental return address.
- Review fuel or charging requirements and plan any needed stop.
- Gather passports or identification, phones, medication and carry-ons separately from the luggage being unloaded.
- Allow time to inspect the cabin, seat pockets and cargo area before handing over the vehicle.
