Houston to Fredericksburg Texas: Small town offering BIG fun

Directions: here (may have toll roads)

Distance: 4 hours 10 minutes and 242 miles, if starting from our Houston location

Fredericksburg was founded on May 8, 1846 by German immigrants and has kept its heritage since. It is riddled with unique shops and some of the longest standing peach orchards in Texas. Starting in spring time, the town is riddled with wildflowers and famous Texas bluebonnets. Another astonishing site to behold, is the Japanese Garden of Peace. This sacred garden was gifted by Japan due to U.S. Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz’s actions, in helping to save and restore one of Japan’s most beloved admiral's ships, post WWII. The garden was a gift of friendship between the two nations and currently resides in one of the most expansive museums dedicated to the Pacific War, right in Fredericksburg. The Pacific War Museum located in Fredericksburg, is acres long and includes an entire replicated battleground. Reenactments are done periodically to give spectators and idea of what transpired, but even the experience of viewing this massive museum, is worth it alone. For those that just want to relax, there are tons of local wineries and distilleries. When it comes to lodging, there are tons of places to stay. From cabins, Bed and breakfasts, and hotels, this place has it all. Food wise, there is a ton of options from German staples, to Texas favorites. A local favorite is the Twisted Sister’s Bake Shop. It offers a wide variety of selections and interesting items for purchase.

Texas offers something for everyone, but this small town is a hidden gem for sure. AVR knows that a road trip should be something more than just a boring drive. These aren’t road trips, these are AVR journeys and they create lasting memories for a lifetime. Come do travel the AVR way! AVR, because the journey should be just as fun as the destination.
